Are you bothered with excessive sweating? Are you suffering from the embarrassment of ugly underarm spots and ruined clothes? For many men and women, no amount of deodorants and antiperspirants work to control the excessive underarm sweating. In fact, people suffering with this condition may even sweat if the weather is cold or they aren’t exercising or physically active. This condition has a medical name, hyperhidrosis, and it is treatable!
Many people are embarrassed by this condition and are not aware there are non-surgical treatments for hyperhidrosis. If you are suffering with hyperhidrosis, you no longer have to undergo an underarm surgery involving the excision of sweat glands. At BAXT CosMedical®, Dr. Rebecca Baxt, a board-certified dermatologist, offers effective, FDA approved non-surgical treatments to control excessive sweating.
What Is Excessive Sweating?
Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition where individuals sweat more than necessary to regulate body temperature. This condition can affect various body parts including the underarms, face, scalp, feet, and palms. Hyperhidrosis can significantly impact daily activities and often leads to social anxiety or embarrassment.
Top Non-Surgical Treatments For Excessive Sweating
Dr. Baxt is excited to offer a NEW FDA-cleared treatment for hyperhidrosis… Brella®! Brella® Sweat Control Patch is the first and only medical device that reduces underarm sweating in adults with primary axillary hyperhidrosis.
Additionally, Dr. Baxt offers BOTOX® as a proven, effective solution to treat excessive sweating in various parts of the body.
What Is Brella® And How Does It Work?
Brella® is a topical patch that is applied to the armpits for a few minutes. The patch has sodium chloride as an active ingredient, which interacts with the water in the sweat gland and creates thermal heat energy that temporarily damages the sweat glands, thereby reducing sweating.
Therefore, sweat must be present for the treatment to work.
Before Brella® Treatment Instructions for Patients:
- DO NOT use deodorant or antiperspirant the day of the treatment.
- Ensure hair is removed.
- Shave 2-3 days before the treatment.
- Make sure the skin is intact and free of irritation for the safest results.
Dr. Baxt advises that each Brella® Sweat Control Patch treatment for hyperhidrosis is individually customized. The duration of the treatment depends on the patient’s tolerance, varying between individuals and even between armpits.
Dr. Baxt or her professional staff will monitor the patch and remove it if it becomes uncomfortable, stings, burns, or shows other signs of discomfort. When the patient experiences discomfort, the treatment is considered complete. Throughout the process, Dr. Baxt and her staff will remain in the treatment room to guide you and determine the optimal time to remove the sweat control patch.
Treatment time typically ranges from 1 to 9 minutes. Dr. Baxt warns that prolonged discomfort is neither recommended nor beneficial, as the patch can cause burns. Expect mild to moderate discomfort during and sometimes after the treatment.
What Results Can You Expect From Brella®?
Results of Brella® treatment can vary. While some patients may see improvement within a few days, it can take up to 2-4 weeks to achieve maximum effect. On average, the results last around 3 months.*
There are potential risks, including but not limited to: skin erosion, peeling, redness, swelling, bruising, increased sweating in other areas, irritation, burning or stinging sensation, discomfort or pain, skin abrasions or ulcerations, changes in pigmentation (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation), and scarring, although not reported, is theoretically possible.
How Does BOTOX® Control Excessive Sweating?
BOTOX® is another effective treatment for excessive sweating offered at BAXT CosMedical®. This FDA-approved injectable has been used since 2004 to treat severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating).
BOTOX® works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Without these signals, the glands stop producing sweat. Results can last between three to twelve months, depending on the patient.*
Dr. Rebecca Baxt informs her patients that once BOTOX® is injected, the “sweat isn’t redirected or backed up; it simply isn’t produced in the treated areas.” You will continue to sweat in other areas.1
