‘Baby Botox’ is a trending term gaining traction on social media. But is it really new? What exactly is ‘Baby Botox’? Discover the ins and outs of this popular treatment.
‘Baby Botox’ is a term I have used for many years. In my practice, it refers to the administration of low dose BOTOX® Cosmetic. I explain to my patients that ‘Baby Botox’ uses the same botulinum toxin solution as standard BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. The primary difference between them is the technique in which it is injected.
Sometimes, the administration of a regular dose of BOTOX® Cosmetic, at the FDA approved dose, is not the appropriate or best dose for a particular patient. Remember, injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic is an art, although it is best to understand the science behind it as an injector.
What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic ranks among the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States. This non-invasive neuromodulator is FDA-approved to treat three key facial areas. With BOTOX® Cosmetic, you can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes.
The Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic
In men and women, the most prominent areas for folds, creases, and wrinkles are typically found on the forehead, caused by years of frowning and squinting, and around the eyes due to aging. When skillfully injected, BOTOX® Cosmetic can temporarily reduce deep creases and wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful, smoother, and refreshed appearance.

The Optimal Age for Starting Cosmetic BOTOX® Injections
BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a one size that fits all. I personally LOVE ‘Baby Botox’ and while some patients do start injections in their 20s and 30’s, many start later. There is no age discrimination in my medical practice, my BOTOX® patients’ ages range from 18 to 90 years of age.
Is ‘Baby Botox’ Exclusively Used For Younger Patients?
No, ‘Baby Botox’ dosing is not exclusively for young patients. There are some young patients with premature forehead aging who have strong facial muscles. In those cases, ‘Baby Botox’ will not suffice.
For example, the before and after patient photos shown below are of two patients with early forehead aging, ages 38 and 37, who were treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

On the other hand, some older patients need a smaller amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic to get great results.
For example, the before and after patient photos shown below are of two patients, ages 55 and 76, who were treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

BOTOX® Injection Process and Duration: What to Expect
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface by targeting the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet. When you’re treated by a great Board-Certified Dermatologist trained in facial anatomy, you won’t have to worry about losing too much facial expression with BOTOX® injections.
During the consultation, I discuss my patient’s cosmetic rejuvenation or anti-aging goals and examine their facial anatomy to customize the best BOTOX® Cosmetic dose. Over time, I adjust the dosage as needed. My patients generally get injections every 3 months and some even see results lasting 4 to 6 months, especially after consistent BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments over many years.
