What We Know For Sure!
As a board-certified dermatologist who has treated thousands of medical dermatology and aesthetic patients, I can reassure you that the cosmetic neurotoxins (BOTOX® Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau™), I use in my practice are safe and effective.
See for yourself! Watch me injecting a patient with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
At BAXT CosMedical® we have been using BOTOX® Cosmetic since 1998! In the hands of a board-certified dermatologist who is a skilled injector, patients experience very few of the minor side effects that include headache or swelling at the injection site. Which is why I do all injections in my practice including, BOTOX® Cosmetic and all the advanced facial fillers we offer at BAXT CosMedical®.
A technology I use to avoid and/or minimize bruising is AccuVein. This vein illumination device allows me to visualize my patients’ veins so I can locate and avoid any “invisible” veins to improve patient outcomes and prevent bruising.
BOTOX® COSMETIC SAFETY PROFILE
What we know for sure about BOTOX® Cosmetic is outlined below:
- BOTOX® is FDA-approved for minimizing facial wrinkles, specifically the vertical lines between the eyebrows.
- BOTOX® has an excellent safety history. Reviewing data compiled by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on adverse effects, only 36 cases were reported between 1989 and 2003. The number is even lower as 13 of these cases were due to underlying patient conditions rather than a reaction with BOTOX®.
- BOTOX® is only injected in small, targeted doses.
- BOTOX® injections are the most popular cosmetic procedure nationwide. In 2020 over 4 million people had BOTOX®. Before the pandemic, the number was 5+ million!
The bottom line is that BOTOX® Cosmetic is very safe when performed by an experienced board-certified dermatologist. Side effects occurred in less than one percent of recipients, and most of these were minor, such as, minor headache or bruising.
A caution! Beware of low cost “Botox” providers as there is no “generic” form of BOTOX® Cosmetic. The formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products. This means that one product cannot take the place of another. Make sure you are getting authentic BOTOX® Cosmetic. We receive our BOTOX® directly from the manufacturer, Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie Company.
I have seen no short or long-term negative effects in my BOTOX® Cosmetic patients. BOTOX® is a safe and effective non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedure which temporarily reduces deep creases and wrinkles resulting in a more youthful, smoother, and refreshed look.
A Newsweek article and a press release issues by The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association (ASDSA) alerted the public about children buying and using ‘hyaluron pens’ to inject hyaluronic acid. App users on TikTok have shared clips on self-injections into their faces. The so-called hyaluron pens are sold online ($60 to $300) and promoted as DIY lip and wrinkle solutions. I join my colleagues in alerting the public on strongly warning individuals to NEVER buy these pens and NEVER self-inject!
